Alex Scurry Obituary

Woonsocket - Alex L. Scurry, 58, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023 in the Hope Hospice and Palliative Care in Providence. He was the former husband of Penny Scurry of Woonsocket and Lisa (Wakely) Scurry of Woonsocket. 

Born in Woonsocket, son of Dwight Dandy of Woonsocket and Queen (Scurry) Dowdy of Woonsocket. 

Alex worked as a laborer for Fairmount Foundry for several years. He loved his family and his grandchildren. He liked to watch TV, listen to music, and enjoyed cooking. He was also an active athlete and was a lightweight boxer in junior high school. 

He is survived by his five children, Erica Scurry of CT, Ashley Scurry, Tiffany Scurry, and Taariq Scurry all of Woonsocket, and Narenia Scurry of MA. His two step sons, Gregory Diaz of CA and Jonathan Diaz of MA. Seven siblings, Dwight Withee of Woonsocket, Shannon Ortiz and her husband Jose of Woonsocket, Brandie Ekwegh of Woonsocket, Jesse Withee of Warwick, and Dana Dandy, Reggie Dandy, and Noel Dandy all of Woonsocket. One step sister, Kimberly Clements. Nine grandchildren and one on the way. And one great-grandchild on the way. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 6 PM in St. James Baptist Church, 340 South Main St. Woonsocket, RI. Relatives and friends are invited; calling hours are from 5-6 PM prior to the service in the church. The S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, RI 02895 is in charge of the arrangements.
