Alfred Rousseau Obituary

Bellingham, MA - Alfred W. Rousseau (Butch), 84, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, with his family by his side after complications from a lengthy illness. He was the former husband of Jacqueline (Gachet) Rousseau of Bellingham, MA.

Born in Woonsocket, Butch was the son of the late Alfred and Armende (Gebieau) Rousseau. He was a resident of Bellingham, MA most of his life and worked for General Motors for 27 years until the plant closed and later the Franklin and Bellingham schools.

Butch had a natural gift for working with his hands. He could tackle any home project with ease. His many talents brought warmth and beauty to his home, a reflection of both his skill and the pride he took in his work. Known for his generosity, Butch was always ready to help a neighbor or family member in need. An avid gardener, reader and devoted Boston sports fan- especially loyal to his beloved Bruins and New England Patriots.

Butch also loved music. He had a beautiful voice and was often heard singing an Elvis tune around the house and loved dancing at weddings.
One of Butch’s proudest accomplishments other than his family was his 41 years of sobriety. His strength and unwavering commitment not only shaped his own life but inspired and supported others on their journeys.

Butch loved his family and once his grandchildren were born, he loved cheering them on in life and events.  He also loved sharing his love of fishing with his grandsons and was happiest when they were able to do it together.

In retirement, Butch fulfilled his dream of spending summers fishing at the Cape. For 22 seasons, he was a seasonal resident at the Bourne Scenic Campground, where he enjoyed fishing along the Cape Cod Canal, clam digging, lending a hand to friends, and sharing plenty of laughter. Summer Friday nights were reserved for karaoke, where he sang his favorite songs along with friends.

Butch is lovingly remembered by his four children: Marc (Lisa), Debra (Scott), Donna (Philip), and Michelle (Timothy); his sisters: Theresa, Irene, and Claire (Gene); his brothers: Wilfred, (Pauline), Robert (Elaine), Albert (Yoursia), his sister-in-law, Jane Rousseau and his nine grandchildren: Alyssa, Michael, Benjamin, Kate, Emily, McKayla, Meredith, and Landon. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Grace, Noah, and Logan, and his dear friend and companion, Janine Eaton.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Alice Brien, his brothers Leo and Edgar, Brother-in-laws Roland LaBrie and Bill Brien and his grandson Nolan.

Family and friends are invited to honor Butch at his funeral on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 9am at the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI.
