Woonsocket - Charles J. Koury, 87, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Friendly Home.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late John and Mary (Elias) Koury.
Charles was a United States Air Force Veteran and proudly wore Air Force shirts and hats throughout his life. It was there that he learned to be an airplane mechanic. When he left the service he swapped airplane engines for car engines and became an auto mechanic. He was the owner/operator of Koury’s Service Station in Woonsocket. Charlie, as he was more widely known, was a hard worker doing very hard work repairing cars. He never let snow or ice or rain or the hot New England summers slow him down – his customers needed their cars. Charlie could fix anything.
He enjoyed karaoke, photography, poetry and listening to Neil Diamond music. He was lucky to have had (and taken) the opportunity to see Neil Diamond in concert a number of times. And he loved to sing Neil Diamond songs when performing karaoke for his own “audiences.”
But most of all he loved his daughters, Mary and Allison, and his grandchildren, Matthew, Dean and Angela.
He is also survived by two sisters, Jacqueline and Lorraine and one brother, Leo. He was also the brother of the late, Laurice Carriere, Ramona Lemay and Rose Hawkins.
A Funeral Home Service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 10:30 AM in the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home 1583 Diamond Hill Rd, Woonsocket, RI 02895. Relatives and friends are invited; calling hour is from 10-11 AM. Burial to follow in Union Cemetery, N. Smithfield, RI.
