David Leighton Obituary

Woonsocket - David M. Leighton, 92, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026.   He was predeceased by his long time companion and love of his life, Pauline Mello. 

Born in Nova Scotia, Canada he was the son of the late John and Henrietta (Heighton) Leighton.

David spent much of his life working as a mechanic before retiring in the 1990s. Gifted with remarkable skills,  he was known as someone who could fix or build just about anything.  
For the past 18 years, David was lovingly cared for by his daughter, Jennifer Theroux, and her husband, Michael Theroux, with whom he resided. Jennifer’s impact on David’s life was immeasurable. Through her constant love, advocacy, and attentiveness, she ensured his years were lived with dignity, stability, and compassion. Her selfless commitment and daily presence provided not only exceptional care but  comfort and so much love.  

He is also survived by his daughter’s Joann ,Donna  and Laurie.  Son Everett- along with 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren  with 2 more on the way. All of whom will hold his memory close to their hearts.

David found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed building jigsaw puzzles, playing solitaire, and took great pride in his coin and stamp collections. He will be especially remembered for his love of cigars. 

David will be deeply be missed by all who knew him. His life was defined by kindness and a quiet strength that touched many. 

A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.
