Dennis Gentile Obituary

Dennis Richard Gentile, 77, of Woonsocket, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 25, in Chepachet, Rhode Island.

Born in Woonsocket, he was the beloved son of the late Lilio and Marjorie Gentile. Dennis leaves behind his devoted daughters, Jill Gentili and Jodi Gentili and her husband, Micha Alter, of Brooklyn, NY; their mother, Rita Gentili of New Britain, CT; his life companion, Billie Toupin of Chepachet, RI, and the many dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, and love of life.

Dennis proudly earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from Central Connecticut State University and his Master’s degree in Administration from Providence College. He devoted his career to education, serving the Woonsocket School System as principal of Bernon Heights Elementary School. He also served as principal in West Warwick, Rhode Island, and vice principal in Pomfret, Connecticut. Known affectionately by his students as “Mr. G,” Dennis left a lasting impression through his leadership, warmth, and unmistakable presence in the hallways.  He loved sports and was Football coach at Woonsocket High School as well as a referee for RI state football association.

Outside of school, Dennis knew how to enjoy life. He loved nothing more than hitting a late Pick 5 at Saratoga Racetrack with an ice-cold Heineken in hand or spending a hot July Friday afternoon relaxing at Windjammers at Misquamicut Beach. He embraced life’s simple pleasures and never forgot to savor them.

Dennis often reminded his daughters of what mattered most, ending many weekly conversations with the same advice: “Enjoy life, relax, and have fun.” It’s a message he lived by and one that will continue to guide those who knew him best.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service or calling hours. Friends and family are invited to remember him simply as “Lucky D,” just as he lived on his own terms.
