Frederick Silvia Obituary

Bellingham -Frederick A. Silvia, 84 passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Jeanne (Cote) Silvia of Bellingham, MA.

Born in Newport, RI he was the son of the late Joseph G. and Ann (Costa) Silvia. Fred’s father Joseph Silvia was the Sheriff in Newport for years.

Fred was a United States Army Veteran serving 2 years active duty and also a 29 year Veteran of the RI Air National Guard until 1991. He worked with the military for most of his life. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 85, IWC, PARX club, and the Flag Brigade.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, gardening, enjoyed his 1930 Model A. Ford, traveling to Pennsylvania, and spending time with his canine companions, Toby and Bandit.

Besides his wife Jeanne, he is survived by his four children, Kevin Silvia of Providence, Cynthia Fontaine of Tiverton, Cheryl Perry and her husband Kevin of Tiverton, and Stephanie Silvia of NC. Five siblings, Joseph Silvia of Newport, Elizabeth Garforth of Portsmouth, Francis Rippl of Wisconsin,  Leonora Nero of Hope RI, and Margaret Silvia of Portsmouth, RI. Ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was also the father of the late James Silvia and brother to the late William Silvia and Pauline “Polly”Bestwick

A Committal Service with Military Honors in will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 1PM in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail. Exeter, RI 02822. Relatives and friends are invited. The S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home 1583 Diamond Hill RD. Woonsocket, RI 02895 is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ASPCA in Fred's memory would be appreciated.
