Lucien Pontbriand Obituary

Manville — Lucien R. “Sam” Pontbriand, 83, passed away peacefully Monday, March 1, 2021 in Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Joan (Houle) Pontbriand. Born in Sorel, Canada, son of the late Arsene and Elise (Vandal) Pontbriand. Lucien worked as a Plant Superintendent for Forte’ Cashmere for many years prior to retiring.

Lucien loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Country and Western movie fan, enjoyed playing slot machines on the computer, listening to Elvis Presley, and most recently driving around to construction sites to watch his grandson work on houses.   

He is survived by two children, Susan McNamara and Steven Pontbriand and his wife Mary, all of North Smithfield, RI. Two brothers, Leo Pontbriand and his late wife Pauline of Manville, RI and Richard Pontbriand and his wife Jacqueline of Cumberland, RI. One sister Suzanne Pontbriand of North Smithfield, RI. Five grandchildren, Kyle, Kaitlin, Kristin, Dani Jane and Jack Lucien. Four great grandchildren, Selena, Luis, Lily, and Teddy.

He was also the brother of the late Jean Pontbriand and his surviving spouse Sylvia, Cecile Dussault and her late husband Lucien and Sr. Doris Pontbriand, SSA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 10 AM at St. James Church, 33 Division St. Manville, RI. Burial will be at St. James Cemetery Manville, RI. Relatives and friends are invited; calling hours are respectfully omitted. Social distancing and masks are required. The S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, RI  02895 are in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. James Church Food Pantry, Manville, RI in Lucien’s memory would be appreciated.
