Lucille Mitchell Obituary

Lucille S. (Gilmore) Mitchell, 76, entered Eternal Life with her Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven, peacefully at home surrounded by her beloved family on Friday, November 17, 2023.

Lucille was the daughter of the late Willie and Florence (Nance) Gilmore. She was doubly blessed with loving adoptive parents, Colie and Laura Baxter, all of Newberry, So. Carolina.

Lucille and her future husband, Elve Mitchell, met when they were just seven and nine years of age in Newberry, So. Carolina. Twelve years later and after several years of letter writing, and miles apart, they met again and were united in holy matrimony. To this union, they were blessed with five beautiful children.

Lucille graduated from Gallman High School in Newberry, South Carolina. She later became a nurse assistant and pursued a career as a nurse before moving to RI. Lucille was devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them. She was an avid homemaker who enjoyed flowers, gardening, and tending to her many plants with tender loving care.
Baptized at an early age, Lucille was a long-standing member of Belmont Baptist Church. She loved her Savior, Lord Jesus, with all her heart and loved God’s Word. She was a humble yet gentle, lovable woman who set examples for her children and grandchildren that would lead them all their lives. Mistakenly characterized as being stubborn, stern, or strict by children. Lucille is survived by her husband, Elve Mitchell, and their children, Randy V. Mitchell (Kimberly D.) of Maine, Terrell Mitchell (Michelle Jansson) of Woonsocket, Frank Mitchell of Michigan, Kimberly M. Mitchell (Anthony
Archambault), Karen Mitchell, all of Woonsocket and stepson Elve Morris of E. Providence. Three Sisters: Sarah Lindsey Anderson, Irene Scott, Emma Lee Griffin, and Two Brothers: Nathaniel Gilmore (Katanya) and Wilbert Gilmore, all of So.Carolina. Seven grandchildren: Tanyelle, Randie, Charis, Isaiah, Aaliyah, Andre, and Lavont. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by brothers Spencer and John Willie Gilmore. Sisters: Ella Mae Gilmore and Barbara Jean Gilmore Melvin, and adopted brothers Colie, Fred, and Grant Baxter.
