Lue Scurry Obituary

On August 12. 2025, Lue Dennis Scurry was called home to take his rightful seat in the Kingdom. Lue Dennis was born in Newberry South Carolina on April 11, 1944, and he was the son of the late Josephine Scurry and the brother to Vennie Pitts of Rhode Island married to the late Willie Pitts, the late John Willie Scurry of Rhode Island married to Elnoria Scurry and the late John Thomas Scurry of Rhode Island married to Evelyn Scurry.

He survives by his lifelong companion Melanie Symonds of 44 years and children: Tina Tucker of Bermuda, Sherry Tucker of Bermuda, Leonard Roberson of Arkansas, Lilia Roberson of Rhode Island, Lonny Roberson of Rhode Island, Jason Chapman of Massachusetts, two stepsons Curtis Symonds of California and Damon Symonds of Virgina, 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lue Dennis was native of Newberry South Carolina where he attended and graduated from Gallman High School.

After high school in 1962 he enlisted in the US Navy as a Boatswains Mate and was station in Bermuda. During his military service he received serval medals and awards to include the National Defense Service Medal and ended his military career with an honorable discharge. Once his service obligation was completed, he decided to move to Woonsocket Rhode Island and pursue a career in Social Service. During his time in Rhode Island, he worked as a social worker, mail carrier and ultimately retired from Materion Corp as a wielder in 2013.

Lue Dennis was well known throughout the Rhode Island and Massachusetts area for his passion, dedication and commitment to AA (Alcoholics Anonymous). He served restlessly as a hope of beacon to his mentees and all those in need of support with their addictions. He not only preached the gospel of sobriety, but he faithfully walked the walk and has over 47 years of sobriety.

Lue Dennis' true love was the love for his children and grandchildren. There was never a moment when he wasn't there to support his children from being the only parent at football games, track meets etc..... He felt that it was not only his duty to support his children and grandchildren, but it was his joy and pleasure in the world. For him there was nothing better in the world than being a father and grandfather.

Lue Dennis was the man everyone knows and love. He was a man of many words and many stories to tell. He never saw the bad in a person and always had words of wisdom and encouragement to share. And although he was short in statue, he stood tall like a giant with his overwhelming spirituality and Gandhi-like personality. His smile, his laugh and his presence could soften the hardest of hardest hearts and bring peace and joy into the darkest of darkest moments.
