Marie was born in November 1941 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She was the daughter of Frederique Jean-Jacques and Veronique Maingrette, both of her parents were of Haitian descent. Marie was a beautiful, model looking woman in her prime. Marie passed away at 82 years of age, on May 21, 2024. Having a rich history and a memorable life, Marie will be best remembered for being a self-sacrificing mother and a woman of strong faith in God.
Marie’s father was a reputable Judge and her mother was a school teacher, so Marie came from a decent and well-educated family background. Marie was preceded in death by her father, mother, her brothers Jacques and Serge, her aunt Melanie and her eldest son, Stan Ambroise. She is survived by 4 children: Shirley Jean-Jacques, Cliff Ambroise, John Ambroise and his wife Erika and Mike Ambroise and his wife Sandra. Marie is survived by 3 grand-children: Tarique Ambroise, Avaughn Hardin-Pierre and Jayden Hardin-Lake. Marie is also survived by her brother Lahens Jean-Jacques of Arlington, Texas and by her late ex-husband.
On July 22, 1966, Marie achieved her goal of obtaining her Associates Degree as a Lab Technician at Universite d’Etat in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Still in her twenties, Marie travelled to Canada to work at Roberval Hospital in Quebec, Canada and Hopital Notre-Dame in Montreal, Canada. Marie fondly recalls finding satisfaction in her work as a Lab Technician, especially the scientific aspect and engaging in research.
Although Marie grappled with hardships as a single mother, Marie gave all five of her children her best. Marie was a staunch advocate of quality education for herself and her children. All five of her children were graduates of high school and received some education from a college or university. Marie took pride in helping her children. It’s fair to say that Marie’s children were her whole life.
Marie loved learning about diverse cultures, especially the African culture. Marie was known for her delectable Haitian dishes and she enjoyed providing meals for her family. Music was one of Marie’s favorite pastimes. Marie loved listening to a variety of artists, such as Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Miriam Makeba, and Fela Kuti, to name a few.
Marie passed away at Mass General Hospital, which her children highly praise for their superior care in treating Marie. Marie and her children are particularly thankful to her RN's Bri and Jake, Dr. Glick, and her palliative care nurse, NP Mason.
Marie truly embraced the Bible’s hope that she will be resurrected to a beautiful paradise on earth where she will be reunited with her mother and her son Stan, as well as her other family members who left the earth. Marie will forever be remembered by her children and all who knew her as an outstanding mother and a big hearted person of faith in God.
