A Mother, Grandmother, Sister & Friend
Mary passed away peacefully on Sunday May 9, 2021 at home with her loving family by her side. Mary was 69 years old born on September 19,1951 in Newberry South Carolina she was the daughter of the late Bertha Worthy and the late Luther Perry Jeter. Mary was proceeded in death by her siblings Mary H. Suber, Willie Mae Lutz, Freddie Worthy, James Worthy, Eugene Cook and Collie Jeter.
Mary who wasn’t shame to say I’m from the country also lived in various areas of the east coast, Boston MA, Brooklyn NY and Philadelphia PA until settling here in Woonsocket with her daughter and grandchildren. While living here in Woonsocket Mary worked in food service for the Woonsocket School Department Mary was a joy to be around and young people loved her best. Mary always had an uplifting greeting or words of love and encouragement to her Facebook family and friends. Many of us will miss her morning check ins.
Mary was an active member of St. James Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, the Missionary Society, and was a Primary Sunday School Teacher. Mary especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren picking up Val for whatever reason was the highlight of her day. Mary loved being in the company of good friends especially Jackie Dowdy and lets not forget she loved a good cup of coffee.
Mary is survived by two children one daughter Lt Col. Sharon L. Harmon of Woonsocket RI, and one son Thomas Worthy and his wife Latunga of Newberry SC; Six sisters, Sarah Taylor, Barbara Jean Jeter, Patsy Sims, Mary Jeter and Jackie Jeter all of Newberry SC and Thomasina Worthy of Norristown PA and two brothers, Romai Jeter and Sammy Graham both from Newberry SC. One grandson Marcus Harmon of Woonsocket RI, Three granddaughters, Valerie Harmon of Woonsocket RI, Tiauni Worthy and Tiauri Lindler both of Newberry SC, One Goddaughter Chandra Dean of Columbia, SC. Two Sisters in-law Thomasina Suber of Woonsocket, RI, and Betty Suber of Newberry SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. To God be the glory for the life of Sister Mary Worthy she’ll be missed but never forgotten.
A Service will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 5PM in St. James Baptist Church 340 S. Main St. Woonsocket, RI 02895. Relatives and friends are invited; calling house re in the Church from 3-5 PM prior to the Service. Burial will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 1 PM in Union Cemetery Smithfield Rd. North Smithfield.
