Woonsocket - Minnie Lee Abney 83, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 26, 2022 in the Landmark Medical Center with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Charles L. Abney.
Born in Winston-Salem, NC daughter of the late Robert and Lula (Moore) McCorkle.
She worked as a Welder for General Motors for 28 years and also as a Driver for Marks Transportation for several years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star as past Grand Matron of Prince Hall Grand Chapter, past Matron of Queen of Sheba Chapter #1 and Millville Nipmuc Lions International Association of Lions Club, a member of St. James Baptist Church serving in the Senior Choir, the Deaconess Ministry, the Kitchen Ministry, JW Henson Scholarship Ministry, she was also a Pastors Aide, a Church Usher, and member of The Friendly Essence Club.
She enjoyed cooking, bowling, missionary work, and spending time with family and friends. She also lived life to the fullest.
Minnie is survived by her five daughters, Carseania Tribble and her husband Michael of NC, Maxseania Abney of Woonsocket, Latonya Abney of Woonsocket, Lawanda Montiero and her husband Albert of Providence, and Syreeta Abney of Woonsocket. One son, Richard Ethier of Winston-Salem, NC. One sister, Margaret Turner of Winston-Salem, NC. One brother-in-law, Benny Abney of Woonsocket. Twelve grandchildren and thirty four great grandchildren. And several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Flora Anne King, James Robert McCorkle, Wayne McCorkle, and Rebecca McCorkle. Her grandson, Robert Speaks Abney.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11AM in St. James the Baptist Church 340 S. Main St. Woonsocket, RI 02895. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, N. Smithfield RI. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours are from 9:30-11AM prior the service in St James Baptist Church. The S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, RI 02895 is in charge of the arrangements.
