Blackstone — It is with a heavy heart and great sadness, we announce the passing of Raymond A. Poirier, age 84, on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at home, peacefully with his loving family by his side, after a brave and courageous three year battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Ruth (Lamothe) Poirier of Blackstone and the late Norma (Couturier) Poirier.
Born in Woonsocket the son of the late Armand E. and Florence A. (Auclair) Poirier, Ray was a resident of Blackstone for 61 years. Ray and Ruth spent fifteen wonderful years wintering in North Palm Beach Florida.
Ray worked for Poirier and Ware Heat Treating Co. in Wrentham, MA, Draper Corp. in Hopedale, MA, General Motors in Framingham, MA, and the Douglas School System, retiring in 2005.
Ray was a member of the Woonsocket Lodge of Elks # 850 for 26 years. He enjoyed playing pitch, volunteering in the kitchen at the Elks, attending car shows and concerts, and going to the casino. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Besides his loving and devoted wife Ruth, he is survived by his three children, Michael Poirier and his wife Sheri of Palm Coast, FL, Bruce Poirier and his fiancé Kelly Maloney of Blackstone, MA, Mark Poirier and his wife Tina of Blackstone, MA, two loving stepdaughters, Lisa Carpentier and her husband Jason of Lincoln, RI, Denise Stevens and her husband Thomas of Cumberland, RI, and five grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda, Samuel, Julia, and Sara, and one step grandson, Tyler. He also was the brother of Robert Poirier and his wife Anita of FL, and Ronald Poirier and his wife Kaye of TN, two sisters, Lori Ward of Woonsocket, RI , and Pauline Laliberte and her husband Dennis of Cumberland, RI and the brother of the late Roger and Dennis Poirier and Doris Woodward.
Ray lived by his mantra which is also the song he loved best, “What a Wonderful World.” He will be sorely missed by everyone whose life he touched.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 9AM from the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, RI 02895 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Divine Mercy Church, St. Paul St. Blackstone, MA. Relatives and friends are invited and calling hours are on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 4-7 PM. Burial will be private; however, friends are invited to join the family at the Village Haven in Forestdale, RI.
