Raymond F. Thurber
Woonsocket, RI – Raymond F. Thurber, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Landmark Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Rose (Montefusco) Thurber of Woonsocket.
Born in Northbridge, Massachusetts, Ray was the beloved son of the late Frank and Lillian (Dumaine) Thurber.
Ray dedicated his career to caring for others as a Nursing Educator, working for many years at Landmark Medical Center and later at Kent County Hospital before retiring in 2017. His passion for helping others extended far beyond his profession and was reflected in the way he lived his life each day.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather whose greatest joy was caring for his family. A dedicated caretaker by nature, he always placed the needs of others before his own and created a home filled with love, support, and laughter. In his free time, he cherished attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, proudly watching his granddaughter dance and cheering on his grandson at football games. He also enjoyed traveling and making lasting memories with those he loved most.
In addition to his loving wife, Rose, he leaves behind his two daughters, Alicia DeStefani and her husband, Carlo, of Woonsocket, and Kristen Thurber and her fiancée, Jeffrey Kobak, of Burrillville; his brother, Gary Thurber and his wife, Linda, of Woonsocket; his sister, Constance Plotkin and her husband, Gary, of Florida; his cherished grandchildren, Julia and CJ DeStefani; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 9:00 AM from the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony Parish, 128 Greene Street, Woonsocket. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Wrentham Road, Cumberland.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 4:00–6:00 PM.
