Pascoag - Richard “Dick” Alan Scott, 67, passed away on December 4th at home surrounded by his loved ones after a battle with cancer. He was the husband of Elaine Hoyceanyls-Scott of Pascoag, RI.
Dick lived a great life. He was born and raised in Woonsocket, RI- the son of the late Walter Scott and Ann (Griffin) Scott. Along with his brothers, Walter, Gerry, and Al, the Scott Boys spent their time hanging out in the old Ruby Street neighborhood, at the YMCA, and watching movies at the Stadium Theater. Dick graduated from Woonsocket High school in 1974, where he met the love of his life, Elaine Hoyceanyls. He was married to his high school sweetheart for 41 years and together they had many adventures. They loved to travel and spent their honeymoon driving across the country and exploring many sights. They continued this love of travel after having their daughter Amelia and took her to many of their favorite places, as well as exploring his mother's homeland, Ireland. His biggest hobby was enjoying all forms of entertainment. He was a voracious reader, loved watch movies and shows, and listen to music. In recent years he took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren Ellie and Weston.
Richard spent his life following his passions. He worked for a half-century in The Arts. In concurrent careers, he worked as direct care and administration in Human Services with children, teens, and developmentally disabled adults, as well as Book and Movie retail. He was the school recipient of the Congressman's Medal of Merit and the American College Theater Award of Excellence, presented to him at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He worked for a decade as an Actor at The Rhode Island Shakespeare Theater and as Actor and Stage Manager at Trinity Rep. He was a thirty-year member of the Actors Equity Association, and a seventeen-year member of the New England Horror Writers. Richard was extremely proud to be a published author of several short stories and most recently he published his novella Relics from the Underworld with the Crystal Lake Imprint Torrid Waters.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Elaine Hoyceanyls-Scott, his daughter Amelia Alburn and son in law Marc Alburn, and his two grandchildren Elaine and Weston.
