Robert E. Ward

Woonsocket - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Bob, at age 92, at home with his loving family by his side, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. He was the loving husband of Lorraine “Lori” (Poirier) Ward of Woonsocket. 

Born in Woonsocket, son of the late James H. And Elsie A. (Gobielle) Ward. 

Bob and Lori spent 29 years in Florida, were known as snowbirds and enjoyed every moment they spent there. 

He was a United States Navy Veteran and US Naval Reserve, Division 1-43 for 10 years.  
 
He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School, Class of 1951. He also obtained an Associates Degree in Business from the New England Institute of Technology. 

Bob was a Credit Manager at the former Valley Resources now National Grid in Cumberland, RI., retiring in 1994 after 37 years. 

In 1986 he was elected to the Credit Committee of the former Park Square Credit Union now Navigant Credit Union and served as Chairman until he retired in 1997. He was a member of the National Association of Credit Managers. He also served for three years as President of the RI Zoning Boards Association. A member of the Woonsocket Zoning Board serving in all capacities for 22 years. He was a volunteer for Catholic Charities and the Heart Fund for many years and was names Northern RI Chairman for Special Gifts in 1998 Catholic Charity Fund Appeal. A member of the RI Democratic State Committee for 6 years and Chairman of the Woonsocket Personnel Board for 4 years. He was also a member of the Woonsocket Lodge of Elks #850. 

Besides his wife Lori, he is survived by his daughters, Patricia Ward of Woonsocket and Roberta Montgomery of Burrillville, RI. His sister, Elsie Lymburner of Cumberland. 3 grandchildren, Taylor and her husband Korey, Alexandra Montgomery, and Jackson Montgomery. 2 great-grandchildren, Ellie and Wyatt. 

He was also the brother of the late James Ward and George Ward. 

His Funeral will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 10 AM from the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, RI 02895 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in Holy Trinity Church Park Avenue Woonsocket. Relatives and friends are invited; Calling hours are on Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 2-4PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to michaeljfox.org in Bobs memory would be appreciated.
